Study Trip

We are very excited and happy to announce that this year’s study trip will go to Taiwan!

This year we will explore two amazing destinations in Taiwan which are Taipei and Kaohsiung!

We depart at the 15th of May and return on the 27th of May, giving you entire nine nights to explore this world city and have a great time with your fellow UPTE students!

Taiwan

The island of Taiwan is located in the Western Pacific between Japan and the Philippines off the southeast coast of China, from which it is separated by the Taiwan Strait. The population in Taiwan is approximately 23.4 million, spread across a total land area of about 36,000 km2; it is the seventeenth most densely populated country in the world with a population density of about 650 inhabitants per square kilometer.

Taiwan is worldwide known as as a little, overcrowded island centered around manufacturing industries. It has a free market economy in which the prices of goods and services are determined in a free price system, and there is little government involvement. However, Taiwan is much more than that. Taiwan has something for everyone: stunning natural scenery, rich traditional and modern culture, beautiful beaches, renowned hot springs and delicious food. When it comes to culture, Taiwanese culture is the distinct result of a mix of traditional Chinese, aboriginal, and Japanese culture, which is reflected in Taiwan’s food. Taiwanese people are known for treating others with politeness and respect and the friendliness of the local population is remembered long afterwards Moreover, Taiwan’s nature varies from sandy beaches to misty mountains, which gives guests an array of destinations to visit. Many people go on weekend trips there to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and relax on the coast. There are activities for everyone ranging from swimming, water sports and hiking.

Taiwan has a lot of tourist destinations. For example, Taipei has bustling night markets and mouth-watering small bites. Taipei was once home to the tallest building in the world. The tallest building in the world between 2004 and 2010, when the Burj Khalifa in Dubai took over, Taipei101 (the figure denoting the number of floors) towers over the capital, serving as an icon for the modern evolution of the country. There are a lot of things to do and visit in this island like the museum of 696,422 exhibits, a bling monastery and plenty more arresting places of worship. The island has more traditional religious buildings, too, not least the Unesco-recognised Baoan Temple. There is a gnarly railway, plus a high-speed network
